The Story of Shahrazad

Shahrazad, a 30-year-old woman, has been affected by mycetoma for 16 years in her left leg. She depends on her family to seek medical treatment.

Despite Shahrazad’s difficulty in movement and hard journey in seeking medical treatment, she kept visiting the centre every 4 weeks seeking medical treatment and had 5 surgeries on her leg; all these efforts resulted in vain. Making doctors think differently to end her suffering.

Professor Ahmed Fahal and the team decided to end Shahrazad’s suffering of difficulty in moving, carrying out daily life activities, and being unresponsive to treatment by amputating the affected leg.

Amputation is a normal, yet necessary decision in some patients’ lives due to frustration and pain for long times, as the only way to get rid of the limb.
